Lexi Lou tonight …
Just hung up the phone with Dr. Spranklin, Who will be performing the amputation surgery for Lexi Lou.
Him and I have changed the schedule to Thursday, April 30th at 3:00 for Lexi’s surgery.
I feel good that we have two more days before this big operation… Although, she is anxious to move on and to be pain-free.
We will spend the extra hours getting more prepared. Since we have very slippery floors in our home I’m going to go out and purchase rugs and runners tomorrow throughout the house I will also have her confined to a certain area for the first week as much as possible so no other dogs are trying to lick her wound and or tugging at her to play. Kind of the norm around this multiple-Golden-house!!!
Stay tuned for more updates.
Thank you for your prayers and wishes.
Lexi Lou ~ Golden Retriever, female, 11 years old, Soft Tissue Sarcoma.
Hello Tripawds out there…
This is our Golden Retriever rescue girl named Lexi Lou.
Lexi Lou was rescued by Golden Retrievals a while ago from her previous owner who had been put in a nursing facility unexpectedly. She had sent her animals to a boarding facility, which after two months could not afford to pay… When GR’s were contacted both dogs were rescued immediately. Lexi and Lenny (her Golden X brother), were in horrific shape. Flea infested, bloody soars from biting, infections, feces in their coat and urine, dull and matted coats, etc… Well, Lenny was placed immediate and Lexi has taken much longer to find her new home. Lexi is friendly and sweet, loves children and other dogs. She is eleven years old that may be what is slowing down the potential adoptive family :(… She lives in a great loving foster home that does care for her and give her good quality living.
Lexi Lou has gone through extensive blood work, ultra sounds and radiographs. She is healthy as a horse with the exception that she has developed “Soft Tissue Sarcoma” in her right lower leg. After the 3rd biopsy report came back it had determined that Lexi has this particular cancer and it is localized only to the tumor… This is the good news.
The not so good news is that operating in this location will not be sufficient for removing wide margins, which needs to be to rid of the cancer, that will grow back rapidly.
So the only option is to amputate.
Well, this is all going to take place on Tuesday, April 28th, 2015, if all goes as planned.
We are nervous for her and probably struggling more than she is or would be.
She is in pain, this I know. But, the loss of a limb just hurts me inside. :*(
I will do everything in our power to make her comfortable and happy as possible.
Any and all advice is warmly welcomed.
Thank you for your support in getting through this.
Prayers for our sweet girl Lexi Lou ~
